Some people quietly brush their birthday and the growing number associated with it under the carpet each year, while others stretch their celebrations out as long as humanly possible, shouting celebrations from the rooftops. Here at Innovation Point with the latter!
We’ve got a whole host of celebrations planned to celebrate turning two years old this week, beginning with yesterday’s boat trip to Flat Holm island with some of our nearest and dearest. After all, we've got a lot to celebrate - how many companies can say they're personally responsible for bringing £1.2million into the economy?
Flat Holm holds a special place in the hearts of innovators, entrepreneurs and mavericks as it was the island from which telecoms innovator Guglielmo Marconi chose to send the first ever wireless radio transmission – all the way back in 1897! Innovation’s in our blood (and our name), so it was only right we head out to this fitting location.
Joining us on our adventure was University Cribs’ Jack and Dan, and Coursematch’s Joe Perkins. University Cribs were part of our Digital Dozen – Wales’ first tech accelerator – last year, and we’ve been a part of their journey ever since. More recently, we worked with Coursematch to help secure a whopping £275,000 investment in its second funding round.
We finished the day with a pit stop at Pier 64 to reflect on a successful 730 days, say thanks to a select few who have joined us on our journey, and raise a glass to the future.
Today we’re continuing the celebrations (a day’s festivities for each year, right guys?!) with a team lunch here at Innovation Point HQ.
But before we sign off we’d like to say thank you to everyone and anyone who’s been a part of the Innovation Point journey, big or small, the last couple of years, and to anyone who’s allowed us to play a role in theirs. We’ve got some big things on the horizon and we plan to make year three the best yet – starting with the scarily imminent Digital Festival 2018!
Use the hashtag #IPTurns2 to share the stories you’ve shared with us and keep up with our celebrations. Or, if face-to-face is more your thing, register for Digital Festival here and come say hello in person.
